Laker women tied for 10th in new USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll
14-1 Clayton State gets first-ever Top 10 ranking heading into Wednesday’s showdown at Columbus State

MORROW, Ga. --- JANUARY 16, 2007 --- With every advancement each week in the USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team is reaching new heights on the national level. On Tuesday, the Lakers reached their highest level yet.

 

For the first time in program history, Clayton State has cracked the Division II National Top 10 as the Lakers are tied for 10th in this week’s poll, which was released on Tuesday. Clayton State, which is currently 14-1 overall and 4-0 in the Peach Belt Conference, received 350 points this week, advancing four spots to stand tied with Stonehill for 10th.

 

Clayton State, which plays at arch-rival Columbus State for first place in the Peach Belt South Division on Wednesday, is the only team from the Peach Belt that is nationally-ranked. North Dakota State retained its No. 1 ranking for the second straight week.

 

The showdown between Clayton State and Columbus State (12-3, 4-0 PBC) is set for Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. at Columbus State’s Lumpkin Center.
