Laker women ranked 14th in USA Today/ESPN
Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll
12-1 Clayton State has highest national ranking in program history heading into Wednesday’s showdown against Armstrong Atlantic

MORROW, Ga. — JANUARY 9, 2007 — The USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll for women’s basketball was release on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers continued its rise in the national polls.

After being ranked 17th in last week’s poll, Clayton State moved up three spots again this week to 14th in the nation. This marks yet again the highest ever national ranking for Clayton State in women’s basketball. Clayton State, which received 341 points this week, moves up by virtue of South Dakota (previously ranked 16th) losing its only game last week, and Metro State (Previously ranked 14th) recording a split in two games.

Clayton State is currently 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt Conference, riding an six-game winning streak heading into Wednesday’s home showdown against Armstrong Atlantic. Head coach Dennis Cox’s Lakers are the only team from Georgia ranked this week and the only team in the Peach Belt Conference that’s nationally-ranked.

In addition, Clayton State is also the highest-ranked team in the Division II South Atlantic Region. Wingate is ranked 19th, while Carson-Newman is ranked 25th.

Clayton State and Armstrong Atlantic (8-5, 2-0) battle for first place in the South Division of the Peach Belt on Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
