Laker women
move up two spots to 16th in
USA Today/ESPN Division II Coach’s Poll
Lakers play host
to NCAA Division II Women’s South Atlantic Regional this weekend

Fresh off winning the Peach Belt Conference
Tournament championship and securing the top seed in the upcoming
Division II South Atlantic Regional, the Clayton State Laker women’s
basketball team received some more good news on Tuesday.
The new USA Today/ESPN Division II Coach’s Poll was released on
Tuesday, and Clayton State moved up two spots this week to 16th
after being tied for 18th
in last week’s poll. Clayton State (25-5), which enters the NCAA
Division II National Tournament on a five-game winning streak,
received 256 points in this week’s poll.
The Lakers, who have been ranked in the Top 25 during each weekly
in-season poll, continue to be the only team from the Peach Belt
Conference that’s nationally-ranked. Undefeated Florida Gulf Coast
continues to hold the No. 1 ranking in the poll.
NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional action tips off on Friday
with four first round games at Clayton State’s Athletics & Fitness
Center. Wingate battles Georgia College at 1 p.m., followed by
Newberry against North Carolina Central at 3 p.m. Clayton State
takes to the floor on Friday evening at 6 p.m. against
Carson-Newman, and the nightcap at 8 p.m. pits Elizabeth City State
against Columbus State.
The Regional semifinals are set for Saturday night at 6 and 8 p.m.,
and the Regional championship game is Monday night at 7 p.m.
