Clayton State’s Anderson, Beall selected to
Peach Belt
All-Sportsmanship Team
Laker duo part of the
conference’s inaugural squad for best sportsmanship

AUGUSTA,
Ga. --- MAY 23, 2006 ---
The Peach Belt
Conference and commissioner Marvin Vanover released its first-ever Peach Belt
Conference All-Sportsmanship team on Monday, and Clayton State was represented
proudly by student-athletes Carlie Anderson and Matt Beall. One female and one
male student-athlete from each of the conference’s 11 member schools were
selected for the team.
Anderson, a senior women’s basketball player from Hokes Bluff, Ala., recently
completed her Clayton State career as one of the most prolific 3-point shooters
in the history of Laker women’s basketball. She set the Clayton State career
mark for 3-point field goal attempts with 470 and finished second all-time in
3-point baskets with 131.
This season, Anderson appeared in all 31 games with two starts. She averaged
three points and one rebound a contest. Over the last two seasons, Anderson has
been a part of the two most successful seasons in the history of Laker women’s
basketball as she has helped lead Clayton State to a 50-12 mark with one Peach
Belt Conference regular season and tournament championship and two straight
trips to the second round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
Beall, a junior men’s golfer from Newnan, Ga., was one of the top players for
head coach Bob Hill’s Laker squad this season. He led the Lakers with a 77.9
scoring average in 23 rounds and recorded one Top 20 finish. Beall placed 24th
at the Peach Belt Conference Men’s Golf championship.
Each Peach Belt student athlete on the All-Sportsmanship team has demonstrated
consistently good sportsmanship and ethical behavior in his of her daily
participation in Peach Belt athletics and good citizenship outside of their
sports setting.
