FLORENCE, S.C. – January 7, 2012 – The Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team put together a dominant first half, and then the Lakers cruised in the end for a 68-56 victory at Francis Marion in Peach Belt Conference action on Saturday. The victory was the 12th straight for Clayton State, ranked fifth in the nation in Division II. The Lakers are now 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the Peach Belt, while Francis Marion falls to 5-6 overall and 1-4 in the Peach Belt. The Lakers have now won seven straight head-to-head against Francis Marion and nine of the last 10. Seniors Tanisha Woodard and Brittany Hall each scored 13 points for the Lakers, and Woodard also set the all-time record at Clayton State for blocked shots with 144. See full story

PEMBROKE, N.C. – January 5, 2012 – Playing the first of a key two-game Peach Belt Conference road swing, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team put the defensive clamps on the UNC Pembroke Lady Braves on Thursday night, pulling away with a 58-40 victory at the English Jones Center. The victory is the 11th straight for Clayton State, ranked fifth nationally in Division II. The Lakers improve to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in the Peach Belt. UNC Pembroke falls to 4-8 overall and 1-3 in the Peach Belt. Clayton State has now won seven straight against UNC Pembroke. Clayton State women remain fifth in USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll

13-1 Lakers have key road swing this weekend at UNC Pembroke and Francis Marion

LILBURN, Ga. – January 4, 2012 – In the first USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll of the new year, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team held steady at fifth for a second straight poll. The new Division II Top 25 Coaches’ poll was released on Tuesday. Clayton State received 632 points in the new poll, only two points behind Bentley. The Lakers are currently on a an impressive 10-game winning streak after winning twice last week in the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic over West Georgia (76-48) and Wingate (76-60). Clayton State also rolled past in-state rival North Georgia 72-44 on Tuesday night. Head coach Dennis Cox’s Lakers (13-1, 3-0 PBC) have a key Peach Belt Conference road swing this weekend. Clayton State plays Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at UNC Pembroke, followed by Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Francis Marion. See full story
