Clayton State’s Rolle Wins men’s triple jump in
Coach "O" Invitational at Troy
Senior leads Lakers with school-record jump to win event

TROY, Ala. – April 25, 2009 – For the second meet in a row, Clayton State senior All-American Ahmad Rolle came away with an individual win in the triple jump on Saturday at the Coach ‘O’ Invitational at Troy.

Rolle was one of only four competitors in the event which did not give him — nor his fellow competitors — much rest between jumps. The result was a victory with a leap of 47-6 feet, but way off the mark from a week ago when Rolle won with a Division II provisional jump of 49-0¼.

"Ahmad did not get a chance for quality jumps because of the small field size in his event," said Lakers head coach Mike Mead. "He ended up getting in all six of his jumps in about 11 minutes. That is not enough rest time between attempts."

Besides Rolle, the Lakers only had three other Top 5 finishes. Two of those came from junior Anthony Aguilar, who ran a career-best 4:07.65 in the 1500-meter run to finish in fourth place and a season-best time of 9:03.78 for a fifth place finish in the 3,000-meter run.

The final Top 5 finish involved Rolle as a member of the 4x400-meter relay. He, along with freshmen Ricky Fort, Shelby Russell and Robert Spezzacatena won their heat of the relay and finished fourth overall in 3:20.16.

Russell came up with a season-best run in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:57.24, while Fort ran a career-best time of 2:00.05 in the same event.

"Our guys had a pretty solid day, considering the heat and that the meet was on a fast rolling schedule," said Mead. "All of our guys who ran the 1500-meters ran career-best times and our freshmen continued to make solid improvement."

The Lakers are back in action on May 2 as they wrap up the season at the Division II South Region meet at Morehouse. In addition to Rolle, should anyone hit a NCAA Division II provisional mark, they may extend their season one more week for a last-chance meet on May 9.
