Split results for Clayton State men’s track at
Penn Relays and Coach O Invitational
Berkhedle finishes sixth in 1,500-meter run at Coach O Invitational

TROY, Ala. – April 26, 2008 – It was a weekend of mixed results for the Clayton State Laker men’s track & field team.

Five of the team’s quickest members competed at the prestigious Penn Relays, while the rest of the squad competed Saturday at the Coach O Invitational at Troy. It was the first time this season that neither team nor NCAA Division II provisional marks were made by the Lakers.

"Our bunch that ran at Penn ran season-bests in the 4 x100 and 4x400-meter relays, but nothing earth-shattering," said Laker head coach Mike Mead. "At Troy, we had a few season-bests or personal bests, but we might have been missing a little mojo since we were running a split squad."

The 4x100-meter relay of Lawrence DeShields, Tim Moran, Ahmad Rolle and Eric Simmons ran 42.11 at the Penn Relays on Friday to finish 46
th out of 80 teams in the event. The same quartet ran the 4x200-meter relay in 1:27.42 to finish 30th out of 52 teams. In the 4x400-meter relay of Josh Tiggs, DeShields, Rolle and Simmons, they ran 3:17.48 to finish 44th out of 75 teams.

At Troy, freshman Walid Berkhedle had the highest individual finish of the meet for the Lakers with a sixth place showing in the 1500-meter run in 4:02.66. Teammate Au Nguyen ran the fastest 3,000-meter in two years for the Lakers, running 8:59.86 to finish ninth.

Freshmen Ronreaco Lee and Sherard Polite also ran their collegiate bests on Saturday. Lee posted an 11.53 in the 100-meter dash, while Polite ran 51.92 in the 400-meter dash. Lee also jumped a season-best 20-8 feet in the long jump.

The Lakers will regroup on Saturday, May 3 as they compete in the Division II South Region Championships at Morehouse College.
