Peach Belt Announces Men’s Soccer
All-Conference Team

AUGUSTA, GA -- The Peach Belt Conference announced the 15-member men’s soccer All-Conference team on Saturday prior to the tournament semifinals in Morrow, Ga. Lander’s Luke Ibbetson was named the PBC Player of the Year while UNC Pembroke’s Christian Staackmann was named the Freshman of the Year. Clayton State head coach Pete Petersen was named the Coach of the Year.

Luke Ibbetson was the Peach Belt’s leading scorer in 2005 with 19 goals and four assists for 42 points. A junior from York, England, Ibbetson is ranked sixth nationally in goals per game. A two-time player of the week, he is fourth in the PBC in career goals scored and had back-to-back hat tricks in 2005 and had three two-goal games. He is the fifth Lander player to win the Player of the Year award.

Christian Staackmann anchored a UNC Pembroke defense that allowed only 17 goals in 19 games this year, a 0.89 GAA, third best in the Peach Belt. A true freshman from Flensburg, Germany, Staackmann had one goal this season from the back and was named a PBC player of the week. He becomes the second Brave to win the award, joining Stephen Ademolu who won in 2001.

Pete Petersen led Clayton State back to the PBC Championship in only his second season with the program. In his first year, the team advanced to the sweet sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament and this season captured the team’s first PBC Championship since 2001 with a 11-3-4 overall record. His team is currently ranked #9 in the nation.

Below is the complete All-Conference team as selected by the league’s seven head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players. Due to a tie for the final spot, 16 players were named to the team this year.
