Clayton State places two on NSCAA Division II All-Southeast Region for men’s soccer

Lakers’ Klute selected first team All-Region; Phillips selected third team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – December 14, 2011 – The 2011 NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Division II All-Southeast Region team for men’s soccer was released on Wednesday, and the Clayton State Lakers placed two players on this season’s squad. Selected first team Division II All-Southeast Region for Clayton State was defender Chris Klute, while forward Matty Phillips was a third team All-Southeast Region selection. Both were also All-Peach Belt Conference selections, while Klute was also a first team Daktronics Division II All-Southeast Region selection as well. Because he was selected first team All-Region, Klute is now eligible for NSCAA Division II All-American honors. Phillips was a second team NSCAA All-Southeast Region selection last season. MORROW, Ga. – November 15, 2011 – The 2011 Daktronics Division II All-Southeast Region team for men’s soccer was released on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers placed two players on this season’s squad. Selected first team All-Southeast Region for Clayton State was defender Chris Klute and midfielder Janny Rivera. Both were also All-Peach Belt Conference selections, and because they each were selected first team All-Region, they are now eligible for Daktronics Division II All-American honors. EVANS, Ga. – November 4, 2011 – The 2011 season came to a heartbreaking end for the Clayton State Laker men’s soccer team as the Lakers fell 3-2 in overtime against Flagler in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals at Blanchard Woods Park on Friday. The defeat concludes Clayton State’s season at 10-8 overall. Flagler improves to 14-3-2 and the Saints will face Montevallo in Sunday’s Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship at 3:30 p.m. at Blanchard Woods Park. AUGUSTA, Ga. – November 4, 2011 – The Peach Belt Conference released its 2011 All-Peach Belt Conference team for men’s soccer on Friday, and the Clayton State Lakers placed three players on this season’s squad. Selected first team All-Peach Belt Conference for Clayton State was midfielder Matty Phillips, defender Chris Klute and midfielder Janny Rivera. This is the third All-Peach Belt selection for Phillips, making him only the third player in Clayton State men’s soccer history to receive such distinction.
