Milestone for Petersen as
Clayton State men prevail 3-1
Lukic, Faublas, Pugh each
score as Lakers improve to 9-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in Peach Belt
 AIKEN,
S.C. – October 17, 2009 – The shutout streak may have ended,
but the unbeaten streak continues for the Clayton State Laker men’s
soccer team.
The Lakers ran their current unbeaten streak to six straight games
on Saturday with a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference victory at USC Aiken.
The victory improves Clayton State to 9-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the
Peach Belt. The Lakers are now in a three-way tie for first in the
PBC with Flagler and Lander.
In addition, Pete Petersen became Clayton State’s all-time
winningest head coach in men’s soccer with his 67th
victory at Clayton State. He is now 67-30-15 in his sixth season at
the Laker helm.
The Pacers struck first, as John Lesko scored off a corner kick in
the ninth minute, thus ending Clayton State goalkeeper David
Cristofoli’s scoreless streak at 506 minutes. But the Lakers struck
back fast with Igor Lukic nailing his first goal of the season off a
right cross from Matthias Faublas in the 13th
minute.
Clayton State took the lead for good in the 31st
minute when Faublas scored on an arching header off an incoming pass
from Lukic. Clayton State got some needed insurance in the 87th
minute on a goal by Ryan Pugh.
The Lakers are back in action on Wednesday in Peach Belt Conference
