Clayton State men inch
closer to PBC title with 3-0 shutout at Georgia Southwestern
Ray, Faublas, Jobe each score
as Lakers improve to 10-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in PBC
 AMERICUS,
Ga. – October 21, 2009 – The Clayton State Laker men’s soccer
team inched ever so closer to a potential Peach Belt Conference
regular season championship on Wednesday with a 3-0 shutout victory
at Georgia Southwestern.
The victory pushes Clayton State’s current unbeaten streak to seven
straight games. The Lakers (10-4-1, 5-1-1 PBC) have now recorded a
PBC-leading nine shutouts on the season.
Clayton State clearly dominated with 18 shots, while holding Georgia
Southwestern (2-13, 0-6 PBC) to only two. The Lakers got on the
board in the 37th
minute when Kyle Timm fed a streaking Jonathan Ray down the middle,
and Ray hammered it home from the top of the penalty box.
Clayton State got some needed insurance in the second half with two
goals. Matthias Faublas gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead, converting a
penalty kick in the 50th
minute. Alargie Jobe then accounted for the final Laker goal with a
20-yard strike from the top of the penalty off another Timm assist
in the 68th
minute.
Laker goalkeeper David Cristofoli recorded his PBC-leading ninth
shutout with one save. The senior has allowed only one goal in his
last 677 minutes. David Porley had six saves for the Hurricanes.
Clayton State closes out the regular season a week from Saturday
(Oct. 31) with a PBC showdown at Lander with a possible PBC regular
season championship on the line. Game time is 1 p.m. |
