Clayton State’s Neilsen selected preseason
All-Peach Belt Conference for men’s soccer
Sophomore defender started all 20 games last season for Lakers

MORROW, Ga. - August 22, 2008 – The Peach Belt Conference released its preseason All-Conference team for men’s soccer on Friday, and Clayton State’s Brett Neilsen was selected to the squad.

Neilsen, a 6-foot, 165-pound defender from Durban, South Africa, is the only Laker selected to this seasons preseason’s All-PBC team. He joins UNC Pembroke’s Michael Barnhorst and USC Aiken’s Alex Lewis as the defenders, while Francis Marion’s Clark Richeson is the goalkeeper. The midfielders are Jamie Ramm and Adam Arthur from Lander and Miguel Ferrer from UNC Pembroke, while the forwards include Aaron Brittain from Lander, Andrew Brown from UNC Pembroke, Juan Rivas from Francis Marion and Kofi Akyere from USC Aiken.

Neilsen started all 20 games last season as a freshman for head coach Pete Petersen’s Lakers, helping pace Clayton State to a 14-4-2 record, both the Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament championships and a berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament. He finished tied for 10
th in the conference in assists with four.

Clayton State officially opens the 2008 season on Aug. 28 at home against Nova Southeastern.
