Overtime shocker! Clayton State men stun No. 12 Lincoln Memorial 2-1
Freshman Fredericks scores both goals as Lakers improve to 2-3 overall

MORROW, Ga. – September 13, 2008 – Overtime games are starting to become routine for the Clayton State Laker men’s soccer. And lately, the luck has been on its side in the extra sessions.

The Lakers may have turned the corner early in the 2008 on Saturday as Clayton State pulled off a stunning 2-1 double-overtime victory over visiting Lincoln Memorial. The victory was significant giving the fact that Lincoln Memorial came into the game ranked 12
th in the nation in Division, was ranked No. 1 in the nation last week and was NCAA Division II national runner-up last season.

Clayton State improved to 2-3 with its second straight victory, while Lincoln Memorial falls to 4-1-1.

Freshman Leigthton Fredericks accounted for both Clayton State goals, but the second proved to be the game-winner as he hammered home a tight cross from Ryan Pugh in the 107
th minute of the game. Fredericks earlier gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute off a deflection of a shot attempt by teammate Angel Kalinov.

Lincoln Memorial tied the game 1-1 in the 77
th minute as Jimmy Vanderhurk scored off a cross from Ross Buckley.

Clayton State goalkeeper David Cristofoli recorded three saves, while his Lincoln Memorial counterpart Michael Watkins recorded eight saves.

Clayton State hits the road for the first time this season on Wednesday – a 5 p.m., clash at Newberry.
