Clayton State receives 31 points and one first-place vote behind Lander

MORROW, Ga. – August 14, 2007 – The Peach Belt Conference released its 2007 preseason poll for men’s soccer on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers were picked second in the race for the Peach Belt championship.

Clayton State received 31 points and one first place vote by the Peach Belt head coaches. The league coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. The Lakers, who shared the 2006 Peach Belt regular season championship with Lander, were picked second behind Lander. The Bearcats received 36 points and six of the possible seven first place votes.

USC-Aiken was selected third, followed by UNC-Pembroke, Francis Marion, North Georgia and Georgia Southwestern.

Clayton State, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Pete Petersen, is coming off a 10-9 season last year, and returns six starters from last season. The Lakers open the 2007 season on Aug. 24 at home against Tampa.
