Clayton State’s
Geathers, Madegwa selected NSCAA Division II All-Region for men’s
soccer
Laker duo was the top
scoring combination in the Peach Belt Conference
 MORROW,
Ga. - January 10, 2008 – The Clayton State Laker men’s soccer
team placed two players on the 2007 NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches
of America) Division II All-Southeast Region team, and both players
were first team selections.
Selected first team All-Region was forward Jamal Geathers, and
forward Tonny Madegwa for the 2007 Peach Belt Conference regular
season and tournament champion Lakers. This is the second All-Region
selection for both Geathers and Madegwa, as they were both also
selected to the Daktronics Division II All-Southeast Region squad as
well.
Geathers, a freshman from Aiken, S.C., was selected both All-Peach
Belt Conference and the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year.
He led the Peach Belt in both goals scored (18) and points (39). He
averaged just under a goal a game with threee multi-goal games and
one hat-trick.
In addition, Geathers also led the conference in game-winning goals
with six, including the game-winner for the Lakers in the thrilling
3-2 victory over Lander in the Peach Belt Tournament championship.
Geathers finished the season ranked 16th
in the nation in goals scored and 21st in the nation in points
scored.
Madegwa
was the senior leader of the Peach Belt’s highest-scoring offensive
team for the 2007 season. A native of Nairobi, Kenya, Madegwa was
selected both All-Peach Belt Conference and Peach Belt Conference
co-Player of the Year. He ranked second in the Peach Belt in assists
with 10 and is also ranked 14th in the nation in assists. In
addition, Madegwa has also scored 13 goals with 36 points to rank
second in the conference behind Geathers.
Clayton State finished the season 14-4-2 overall and a final ranking
of 22nd in the NSCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. The Lakers also won
their third straight Peach Belt Conference regular season
championship and their second Peach Belt Conference Tournament
championship in the last three seasons under fourth-year head coach
Pete Petersen.
