NSCAA/Adidas Division II Men’s Soccer Top 25 Poll
Lakers stand second in Division II Southeast Region behind seventh-ranked Lander

MORROW, Ga. – September 18, 2007 – After splitting its two games last week, the Clayton State Laker men’s soccer team is ranked 14th in this week’s NSCAA/Adidas Division II Top 25 national poll, which was released on Tuesday.

The Lakers were ranked fifth in last week’s poll – their highest ranking yet under current head coach Pete Petersen. However, Clayton State suffered its first defeat of the season last Wednesday 2-0 against visiting Savannah College of Art & Design. But the Lakers didn’t stay down for long, routing visiting Tusculum 5-0 on Saturday.

Clayton State is one of two teams from the Peach Belt Conference ranked in the Top 25. Lander is ranked seventh this week, and the two teams are also at the top of this week’s Division II Southeast Region – Lander in first and Clayton State in second. Following Lander and Clayton State in the region include Lees-McRae, Limestone, St. Andrews, Pfeiffer, Belmont Abbey and Queens.

Clayton State returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Erskine for a 7 p.m. contest, followed by its Peach Belt Conference opener at USC-Aiken on Saturday.
