Laker’s Madegwa, Sethi sweep weekly Peach Belt

Clayton State duo selected "Offensive" and "Defensive Player of the Week" in PBC

MORROW, Ga. - October 23, 2007 – The Clayton State Laker men’s soccer team swept the weekly Peach Belt Conference honors on Tuesday as Tonny Madegwa was selected Peach Belt Offensive Player of the Week, and Alex Sethi was honored as the Defensive Player of the Week.

It’s the third and fourth time, respectively, that Clayton State has earned a weekly Peach Belt honor in men’s soccer.

A senior forward from Nairobi, Kenya, Madegwa spearheaded a Laker attack in Clayton State’s two victories last week. He tied the Clayton State single-game mark for assists and also scored a goal in the Lakers’ 8-1 rout over North Greenville last Tuesday, and then scored the game-winning goal in Clayton State’s thrilling 2-1 victory at Lander on Saturday.

For the season, Madegwa leads the Peach Belt in assists with 10, and is ranked second behind teammate Jamal Geathers in scoring with nine goals and 10 assists for 28 points. He’s also ranked sixth in the nation in assists.

A freshman from Buckinghamshire, England, Sethi helped spearhead the vaunted Clayton State defense in both games last week as the Lakers surrendered only two goals and a combined total of 12 shots. In addition, he also recorded an assist in each game, including the first goal of the game against Lander.

th-ranked Clayton State (11-3-1) and Limestone will square off on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Laker Field.
