ALEX DOWLING
Men's Assistant Soccer Coach

One of the best defensive players to ever don a Laker uniform, Alex Dowling enters his second season on the Laker men’s soccer coaching staff following a stellar playing career at Clayton State. Dowling, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, finished up his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration last December.

A four-year starter for both head coaches John Rootes and Pete Petersen, Dowling helped engineer arguably the best four-year run yet in Laker history. During that time, he helped pace Clayton State to a 48-18-11 mark with two straight Peach Belt Conference championships and two straight NCAA Division II National Tournament "Sweet 16" berths.

Individually, Dowling was a two-time Division II All-American as a junior and a senior, the only Laker in program history to pull off the feat. In addition, he was also a two-time All-Peach Belt Conference and All-Division II Southeast Region selection. Dowling helped anchor a Clayton State defense that was consistently one of the best in the nation each season. In three of his four seasons, the Lakers led the Peach Belt in the lowest percentage of goals allowed and in shutouts.
