Lakers place five on
Daktronics Division II
All-Southeast Region for men’s soccer
Geathers, Haggon, Habtom
selected first team All-Region; Madegwa, Babic make second team

Ga. - November 7, 2007 – The Clayton State Laker men’s soccer
team placed five players on the 2007 Daktronics Division II
All-Southeast Region team, which was released late Tuesday
afternoon. This included three players selected first team and two
more on the second team.
Selected first team All-Region was forward Jamal Geathers,
midfielder Hailab Habtom and defender Karl Haggon. In addition,
forward Tonny Madegwa and midfielder Marijan Babic were both
selected second team All-Region for the 2007 Peach Belt Conference
regular season and tournament champion Lakers. This is the most
representation on an All-Region team for Clayton State ever in a
season.
Geathers, a freshman from Aiken, S.C., was selected both All-Peach
Belt Conference and the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year.
He leads the Peach Belt in both goals scored (18) and points (39).
He averaged just under a goal a game with threee multi-goal games
and one hat-trick.
In addition, Geathers also leads the conference in game-winning
goals with six, including the game-winner for the Lakers in Sunday’s
thrilling 3-2 victory over Lander in the Peach Belt Tournament
championship. Geathers is ranked 14th
in the nation in goals scored and 18th
in the nation in points scored.
Habtom, a senior from Spanga, Sweden, is a repeat selection on the
All-Region team from last season. Habtom has battled injuries much
of the season, but has scored seven goals with seven assists for 21
points and his second straight All-Peach Belt selection.
A senior from Durham, England, Haggon became the backbone to a
vaunted Clayton State defense that ranks first in the Peach Belt
Conference in fewest shots allowed a game (8.1) and ranked second in
goals-against average (0.91). In addition, the transfer from
Division I Marshall has also scored twice this season.
Madegwa is the senior leader of the Peach Belt’s highest-scoring
offensive team for the 2007 season. A native of Nairobi, Kenya,
Madegwa was selected both All-Peach Belt Conference and Peach Belt
Conference co-Player of the Year. He ranks second in the Peach Belt
in assists with 10 and is also ranked 15th in the nation in assists.
In addition, Madegwa has also scored 13 goals with 36 points to rank
second in the conference behind Geathers.
A freshman from Frankfurt, Germany, Babic, a freshman from
Frankfurt, Germany, has stepped in immediately and become the
Lakers’ playmaker in the midfield with three goals and six assists
for 12 points. He was also selected All-Peach Belt Conference.
14th-ranked Clayton State (14-3-2) makes its fifth-ever NCAA
Division II National Tournament appearance on Thursday with a 4 p.m.
showdown against rival Lander in the NCAA Division II Southeast
Regional at Lees-McRae.
