MORROW, Ga. - November 1, 2007 – The Clayton State Lakers literally swept the 2007 Peach Belt Conference postseason honors for men’s soccer on Tuesday as four Laker players were selected to the All-PBC team and Clayton State took all three postseason awards.

Forward Tonny Madegwa was selected the Peach Belt co-Player of the Year with USC-Aiken’s Kofi Akyere, while forward Jamal Geathers was selected as the Peach Belt Freshman of the Year and Laker head coach Pete Petersen was the Peach Belt Coach of the Year.

In addition to that trio, midfielders Hailab Habtom and Marjian Babic joined Madegwa and Geathers as the Lakers on the All-Peach Belt team.

Geathers, a freshman from Aiken, S.C., led the Peach Belt in both goals scored (16) and points (35). He averaged just under a goal a game with two multi-goal games and one hat-trick. He also led the conference in game-winning goals with five. In addition, Geathers is ranked 13

Petersen takes home Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year honors for the second time in the last three seasons after pacing the Lakers to their third straight Peach Belt Conference regular season championship with a 4-1-1 mark in the PBC and 12-3-2 overall. Currently in his fourth season at the Laker helm with a 47-20-10 mark, Petersen has Clayton State ranked 14

"First, I want to thank my peers from the Peach Belt for the honor," said Petersen. "Second, thanks to the people around me at Clayton State that show tremendous support for our program, especially my immediate coaching staff. And, of course, my players, especially my senior class that has shown tremendous leadership this season to make my job easier and enjoyable.

"Finally, I want to thank my wife for letting me play outside all fall."

Habtom, a senior from Spanga, Sweden, has battled injuries much of the season, but has scored seven goals with five assists for 19 points and his second straight All-Peach Belt selection. Babic, a freshman from Frankfurt, Germany, has stepped in immediately and become the Lakers’ playmaker in the midfield with three goals and six assists for 12 points.
