Madegwa paces Clayton State to 2-0 shutout victory over Eckerd
Junior scores twice as Lakers win third straight game

MORROW, Ga. --- SEPTEMBER 10, 2006 --- Sooner or later, the Clayton State Laker men’s soccer team was going to cash in on Sunday against visiting Eckerd. Tonny Madegwa made sure of it.

The junior scored twice in the second half and that was all the Lakers needed in a 2-0 shutout over Eckerd at Laker Field. After a 1-3 start to the season, Clayton State has now won three straight games with two straight shutout victories. Eckerd is now 2-2 overall.

Clayton State could not buy a break in a scoreless first half. Three of the Lakers’ shots hit the top crossbar of the goal. However, Madegwa took control in the second half with help from teammate Hailab Habtom.

The duo connected first in the 64th minute when Madegwa scored on a header off a Habtom cornerkick. Ten minutes later, they struck again as Habtom stole a pass at midfield and fed Madegwa for a goal from the top of the penalty box.

Clayton State goalkeeper Heath Padgett recorded the shutout with four saves, while Eckerd goalkeeper Jim Lebonitte recorded three saves.

Clayton State returns to action on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at home against Montevallo.
