16th-ranked Clayton State
finishes tied for 10th at
State Farm-Laker Invitational

 HAMPTON,
Ga. – September 22, 2009 – The 16 th-ranked
Clayton State Laker men’s golf team posted a Top 10 finish to
open the 2009 fall season on Tuesday, coming in tied for 10th
overall in the 16-team field of the State Farm-Laker
Invitational at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club.
The Lakers shot a 5-over par 293 in Tuesday’s final round,
finishing with a 585 overall. That put Clayton State tied with
seventh-ranked Columbus State and Georgia Southwestern for 10th
overall. The Lakers finished two strokes behind UNC Pembroke and
17th-ranked Lander, and eight strokes off the pace of Queens.
24th-ranked Newberry fired a 10-under 278 on Tuesday and won the
State Farm-Laker Invitational with a 14-under 562. Newberry won
by four strokes over top-rated Georgia College and five strokes
over second-ranked Barry.
Individually for Clayton State, seniors Wade Binfield and Neil
Thomas both finished tied for 27th overall with a 1-over 145.
Playing in only his second career tournament, sophomore Andy
Bate finished tied for 37th with a 3-over147, while junior Adam
Novakowski finished tied for 45th at 4-over 148. Rounding out
the Laker scoring was sophomore Clark Nelson finishing tied for
79th with a 160 (82-78).
Freshmen Michael Lee and Joshua Ransby both played as
individuals for the Lakers. Lee finished tied for 60th with a
150 (71-79) and Ransby finished 83rd with a 177 (89-88).
Clayton State plays next in the Aflac/Cougar Invitational in
Columbus on Oct. 6-7.
