25th-ranked Clayton State closes out fall season tied for fifth at Indian Bayou Classic
Lakers’ Thomas finishes tied for fifth overall at even-par 144

DESTIN, Fla. – October 19-20, 2009 – The 25th-ranked Clayton State Laker men’s golf team closed out the fall season with a solid showing at the Indian Bayou Classic at Indian Bayou Golf Club.

The Lakers finished tied for fifth overall with a two-round score of 600. Clayton State was in third after the first round on Monday with a 295, and followed that with a 305 on Tuesday. The Lakers finished tied with Northeastern State, and three strokes ahead of 23rd-ranked West Florida, five strokes ahead of Centenary and nine strokes ahead of Arkansas Tech.

Third-ranked North Alabama won the event with a 572 (285-287), 10 strokes ahead of sixth-ranked Valdosta State.

Individually for the Lakers, senior Neil Thomas had the top performance for the Clayton State, finishing tied for fifth overall at even-par 144 (70-74). Thomas finished 10 strokes off the pace of tournament low medalist Brett Munson from North Alabama.

In addition to Thomas, senior Wade Binfield finished tied for 21st with a 6-over 150 (74-76), while junior Adam Novakowski finished tied for 34th with a 9-over 153 (79-74). Rounding out the Laker scoring was sophomore Clark Nelson tied for 59th with a 157 (74-83) and freshman Michael Lee tied for 66th with a 158 (77-81).
