Clayton State’s Binfield takes aim at 88th Georgia Amateur Championship
Division II All-American and Peach Belt Conference champion amongst the favorites in Columbus

MORROW, Ga. – July 8, 2009 – Over the last few months, Wade Binfield has probably played the best golf of his life. This weekend, he hopes to raise it again on the biggest stage in for amateur golf in the state of Georgia.

Binfield, a rising senior this season at Clayton State from Fayetteville, Ga., will be one of the prime contenders at the 88th Georgia State Amateur Championships, which will be held on Thursday through Sunday at the Country Club of Columbus. Overall, this is a field of 156 players that will be trimmed to 70 (plus ties) for the final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday at the Par-71, 6,515-yard course at Country Club of Columbus.

Binfield, who won the Peach Belt Conference championship this past season and earned Division II All-American honors, enters the Georgia State Amateur on some pretty strong momentum.

Playing on that same course (Country Club of Columbus) two weeks ago in the 80th Southeastern Amateur, Binfield finished second overall in the 49-player field. He finished with an impressive 9-under-par 275 (69-63-68-68), seven strokes off the pace of overall champion Derek Chang from LSU. The 63 in the second round was a career-best in a round for Binfield, and only one stroke off the course record at Country Club of Columbus.

Binfield followed that up with another impressive showing, finishing second overall at the Spirit of America Golf Classic at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, Ala., last weekend. He posted a score of 1-under 283 (75-64-73-71) to finish four strokes off the pace of overall champion Sang Yi on the Par-71, 7,005-yard course.

Binfield recorded a whopping 11 birdies and two eagles in the Classic, recording three birdies coming in on the back nine to finish second. His 64 in the second round was the low round of the tournament.
