Clayton State’s Binfield finishes tied for 36th at 88th Georgia Amateur Championship
Division II All-American and Peach Belt Conference champion fires 12-over par 296 for four-round event

COLUMBUS, Ga. – July 9-12, 2009 – Playing amongst the best in the amateur field in the state of Georgia over the weekend, Clayton State’s Wade Binfield finished tied for 36th overall at the 88th Georgia Amateur Championship at Country Club of Columbus.

Binfield, a rising senior at Clayton State from Fayetteville, Ga., had rounds of 74, 74, 76 and 72 to finish 12-over par 296 for the tournament. The Division II All-American and Peach Belt Conference champion finished in a four-way tie for 36th overall. He was one of 156 players in this year’s Georgia Amateur, and made the cut down to 71 for the final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday.

For the tournament, Binfield posted eight birdies and 15 bogeys. Included in that was a double-bogey in the second round and a triple-bogey in the third round – both on the Par-4, 380-yard ninth hole. In addition, he also recorded a double-bogey on the Par-4, 396-yard seventh hole in the first round.

Georgia standout Russell Henley won his second straight Georgia Amateur Championship with a record-setting 16-under 268.
