Peach Belt Conference runner-up Lakers ranked in fourth straight Division II Top 25 poll for men’s golf

MORROW, Ga. – April 23, 2008 – For an unprecedented fourth straight time, the Clayton State Laker men’s golf team finds itself again nationally-ranked in Division II.

The Lakers held steady at 20
th in the nation in the new Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, which was released on Wednesday. It marks the first time ever in program history that Clayton State has been nationally-ranked for four straight rating periods in men’s golf.

Clayton State received 59 points in the new poll, fresh off finishing runner-up in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on Tuesday. Head coach Barry Harwell’s Lakers are 14 points behind 19
th-ranked Abilene Christian and 23 points behind 18th-ranked North Alabama.

Once again, Clayton State is one of six teams from the Peach Belt Conference that is ranked in the Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. Three-time Division II National Champion and 2008 Peach Belt Conference champion USC Aiken is ranked fourth, while three-time Division II National Champion Columbus State is ranked seventh and Georgia College is ranked ninth.

In addition, Armstrong Atlantic is ranked 16
th and Lander is ranked 24th
. West Florida retained the No. 1 ranking in the Division II Top 25 for a second straight poll, ahead of Sonoma State and Florida Southern

Up next for the Lakers is a near-certain berth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional in Mooresville, N.C. on May 5-7.
