Ga. – April 23, 2008 – For an unprecedented fourth straight
time, the Clayton State Laker men’s golf team finds itself again
nationally-ranked in Division II.
The Lakers held steady at 20 th
in the nation in the new Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Top
25 Coaches’ Poll, which was released on Wednesday. It marks the
first time ever in program history that Clayton State has been
nationally-ranked for four straight rating periods in men’s golf.
Clayton State received 59 points in the new poll, fresh off
finishing runner-up in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on
Tuesday. Head coach Barry Harwell’s Lakers are 14 points behind 19th-ranked
Abilene Christian and 23 points behind 18th-ranked
North Alabama.
Once again, Clayton State is one of six teams from the Peach Belt
Conference that is ranked in the Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.
Three-time Division II National Champion and 2008 Peach Belt
Conference champion USC Aiken is ranked fourth, while three-time
Division II National Champion Columbus State is ranked seventh and
Georgia College is ranked ninth.
In addition, Armstrong Atlantic is ranked 16th
and Lander is ranked 24th.
West Florida retained the No. 1 ranking in the Division II Top 25
for a second straight poll, ahead of Sonoma State and Florida
Southern
Up next for the Lakers is a near-certain berth in the NCAA Division
II Southeast Regional in Mooresville, N.C. on May 5-7.
