Lakers ranked in third straight Division II Top 25 poll for men’s golf

MORROW, Ga. – April 2, 2008 – For an unprecedented third straight time, the Clayton State Laker men’s golf team finds itself again nationally-ranked in Division II.

The Lakers held steady at 20
th in the nation in the new Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, which was released on Wednesday. It marks the first time ever in program history that Clayton State has been nationally-ranked for three straight rating periods in men’s golf.

Clayton State received 65 points in the new poll, a 19-point improvement from last month’s Top 25 poll. Head coach Barry Harwell’s Lakers are three points behind 19
th-ranked Washburn and 13 points behind 18th-ranked North Alabama.

Once again, Clayton State is one of six teams from the Peach Belt Conference that is ranked in the Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. Three-time Division II National Champion USC Aiken is ranked fifth, while Georgia College is ranked 10
th and three-time Division II National Champion Columbus State is ranked 12th.

In addition, Armstrong Atlantic is ranked 17
th and Lander is ranked 21st
. West Florida, fresh off an impressive showing last week at the Bobcat Invitational in Eatonton, Ga., is the new top-ranked team in Division II.

Up next for the Lakers is the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on April 21-22 at the Hounds Lake Country Club in Aiken, S.C.
