Lakers finish eighth at Southbridge Pirate Invitational
Wilcox finishes tied for 25th with 151

SAVANNAH, Ga. – FEBRUARY 27, 2007 The Clayton State Laker men’s golf held steady through the second round and finished eighth overall at the Southbridge Pirate Invitational at the Southbridge Golf Club on Wednesday. Clayton State shot a 307 for the second round and finished the two-round event with a 610.

The Lakers finished two strokes behind Coker and five strokes behind UNC-Pembroke in the 12-team field. Clayton State finished five strokes ahead of Nova Southeastern, nine strokes ahead of Newberry, 10 strokes in front of Barry and 26 strokes ahead of Limestone.

Georgia College won the event with a 574, 10 strokes ahead of USC-Upstate.

Individually for Clayton State, Will Wilcox had the best Laker finish with a 151 (74-77) and a tie for 25th. Daniel Sommerville finished tied for 32nd with a 153 (77-76), while Matt Beall finished tied for 36th with a 154 (76-78). Rounding out the Laker scoring were Mathias Carlander (79-70) and Neil McBride (76-79) both tying for 39th with a 155.

Valdosta State’s Jason Flowers won the individual title with a 140 (68-72).

Clayton State’s next tournament is the Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, N.C. on Monday.
