Clayton State shoots 296, finishes strong sixth at Richard Rendleman

Sommerville, Wilcox finish
tied for eighth overall with 146
SALISBURY,
N.C. – MARCH 6, 2007 –
Following up a solid first round at the
Richard Rendleman Invitational, the Clayton State Laker men’s golf team
finished up strong in the final round with a score of 296 and a
sixth-place finish overall in the 18-team field at the Country Club of
Salisbury.
Overall, the Lakers finished with a 598 for the two rounds,
finishing one stroke behind Newberry, two strokes behind Presbyterian
and four strokes off of UNC-Pembroke and North Greenville. USC-Aiken was
the overall winner with a 580, shooting a 280 in the second round.
Individually, Clayton State had two players finish in the Top 10
overall. Sophomore Will Wilcox and freshman Daniel Sommerville both
finished tied for eighth with a four-over-par 146. Wilcox’s two day
totals was 74-72, while Sommerville checked in with a 75-71, shooting
even par for the final round.
Mathias Carlander (76-77) and Neil McBride (77-76) both finished
tied for 41st
with a 153, and Matt Beal finished tied for 56th
with a 156 (77-79) for the Lakers. Jeff Goff from USC-Aiken was the
overall individual medalist with a six-under 136 (70-66).
Clayton State is off until Mar. 25-27 when the Lakers play in the
Bobcat Invitational in Eatonton, Ga. |
