Wilcox finishes second at North Alabama Spring Classic
Clayton State sophomore one of only two players to finish under-par in two-round event

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – APRIL 2-3, 2007 Needing one more tournament to qualify for postseason play, Clayton State’s Will Wilcox turned in his best performance yet in the 2007 golf season with a second place finish on Tuesday at the North Alabama Spring Classic. Wilcox, playing as an individual, finished second with a one-under par 143 for the two-round event.

Wilcox, a sophomore, finished with rounds of 73 and 70 and was five strokes behind the individual medalist, Mitch Boles from Central Oklahoma. In fact, Wilcox and Boles were the only two players to finish the tournament with scores under par. Wilcox finished a stroke ahead of St. Edwards’ Blake Slaughter, North Alabama’s Daniel Creel and Abilene Christian’s Hugues Joannes, two strokes ahead of Central Oklahoma’s Chance Tatum and three strokes in front of Lynn’s Federico Celano and Scott Aydelotte.

In the first round on Monday, Wilcox recorded four birdies. He birdied the Par 5 seventh hole, the Par 5 12th hole, the Par 5 17th hole and the Par 3 18th hole to finish with a 73. In the final round on Tuesday, however, Wilcox recorded three birdies and an eagle to finish at two-under for the round. The eagle came on the seventh hole, while the three birdies occurred on the second, fifth and 12th holes.

His 70 tied for the second-lowest score for the second round.

Wilcox and his Laker teammates play their final tournament of the regular season on Monday and Tuesday at the BMW Collegiate in Greenville, S.C.
