Wilcox, Lakers finish strong tie for ninth at Bobcat Invitational
Sophomore ties for fourth with 215 as Clayton State fires final-round score 293

EATONTON, Ga. --- MARCH 27, 2007 --- After enduring a marathon first two rounds on Monday, the Clayton State Lakers finished with a fury on Tuesday in the final round of the Bobcat Invitational at the Cuscawilla Golf Club.

Paced by the strong play of sophomore Will Wilcox, the Lakers shot a superb final-round score of 293 and finished tied for ninth overall with a 902 in the 15-team field. Clayton State finished tied with Rollins, plus one stroke behind Lander, two strokes off the pace of Carson-Newman and five strokes behind Georgia College for sixth place.

North Alabama shot a final-round score of 291 and won the Bobcat Invitational with an 855, 25 strokes ahead of second place USC-Aiken.

Wilcox fired a two-under-par 68 in the final round and finished tied for fourth with a five-over 215, only two strokes from finishing in second place. He finished 11 strokes off the pace of overall individual medalist Daniel Creel from North Alabama, who shot a six-under 204 for the tournament.

In addition to Wilcox, Daniel Sommerville finished tied for 16th overall with a  221 (75-74-72), while James Martin finished tied for 62nd with a 235 (80-79-76), Mathias Carlander finished tied for 65th with a 236 (77-79-80) and Matt Beall finished 71st with a 240 (86-77-77).

Clayton State plays its final regular season tournament on April 9-10 at the BMW Collegiate in Greenville, S.C.

EATONTON, Ga. --- MARCH 26, 2007 --- Playing its first tournament in almost two weeks, the Clayton State Laker men’s golf team is currently 13th overall after two rounds of the Bobcat Invitational on Monday at the Cuscawilla Golf Club.

The Lakers shot rounds of 303 and 306 in Monday’s two-round marathon for a current score of 609. Clayton State is one stroke behind UNC-Pembroke, two strokes behind Carson-Newman, five strokes off the pace of Presbyterian, six strokes behind Belmont Abbey, seven strokes behind Rollins and eight strokes behind Lander for seventh overall.

North Alabama leads the Bobcat Invitational after shooting an impressive 564 (282-282). The Lions lead by a whopping 19 strokes over Florida Southern.

Individually for Clayton State, sophomore Will Wilcox is tied for 16th with a 147 (71-76), 14 strokes behind overall leader Daniel Creel from North Alabama. In addition to Wilcox, Daniel Sommerville is tied for 22nd with a 149 (75-74). Rounding out the Laker scoring was Mathias Carlander tied for 62nd with a 156 (77-79), James Martin tied for 65th with a 159 (80-79) and Matt Beall is tied for 77th with a 163 (86-77).

The third and final round of the Bobcat Invitational is set for Tuesday at the Cuscawilla Golf Club.
