Lakers rebound, finish tied for 16th
at AFLAC-Cougar Invitational
Carlander shoots second round score 71 to finish tied for 43rd
COLUMBUS,
Ga. --- OCTOBER 3, 2006 ---
The Clayton State Laker men’s golf team
rebounded from a tough opening round of the AFLAC-Cougar Invitational
with a stronger second round on Tuesday.
After an opening round 311, the Lakers made a tremendous improvement
with a 295 in the second round to finish tied for 16th
overall with a 606. Clayton State finished tied with Coker and both
teams finished a stroke ahead of Delta State in the 18-team tournament
field. The Lakers finished four strokes behind Catawba and nine strokes
behind USC-Upstate.
Host Columbus State won the tournament with a 2-under par 566, finishing
seven strokes ahead of Georgia College, Valdosta State and Barry.
Individually for Clayton State, Mathias Carlander fired an even-par 71
for the second round, and finished tied for 43rd with a 148
(77-71). Carlander finished with four birdies - two each on the front
and back nine. Matt Beall came back with a 1-over 72 to finish tied for
52nd with a 149 (77-72) with two birdies on the back nine.
In addition, Neil McBride finished tied for 73rd with a 154
(76-78). Rounding out the Laker scoring was Daniel Sommerville tied for
80th with a 155 (81-74) and Chris Ward finished 96th
with a 168 (85-83).
Georgia College’s Johan Cronvall won the tournament with a 4-under 138
(68-70).
Clayton State concludes its fall season on Oct. 15-17 at the Belmont
Abbey Intercollegiate. |
