Hill steps down as men’s head golf coach at Clayton State
Paced Lakers to three NCAA Regionals and two NCAA Division II National Tournament appearances

MORROW, Ga. --- MAY 5, 2006 --- After eight seasons as the men’s head golf state at Clayton State, Bob Hill has announced his resignation from the position, Clayton State athletic director Mason Barfield stated on Friday. Hill was the second head coach in the history of men’s golf at Clayton State, which was founded in 1995.

“Bob Hill has been a special part of our staff here for eight years,” said Barfield.  “His dedication to not only the athletic program, but to the Clayton State University and Morrow community, is without question.  He has always been a positive supporter of all of our programs, and his wit and humor will be sorely missed.

“We wish Bob, his wife Tippi, and their entire family, the best in all they do, and will always consider them lifetime members of our family."

Hill took over the Laker men’s golf program in 1997, and the results were immediate.

In his first season, Clayton State finished fifth in the Peach Belt Conference championships and eighth in the NCAA Division II South Regional, coming within two strokes of a berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The next season, Hill paced the Lakers to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division II South Regional for a berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The Lakers then finished an impressive seventh at the Division II Nationals.

Hill has coached a second-team and a third-team Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division II All-American. He’s also produced one All-District, two All-Peach Belt Conference and one CoSIDA All-District Academic All-American during his tenure. Hill was also honored as Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year in 2005.

The search for Hill’s replacement has already begun.
