Festive event tips off 2010-11 basketball practice for Laker
men, women

Ga. – October 12, 2010 –
"Laker Madness," the introduction of the 2010/2011 Clayton State
Laker men’s and women’s basketball teams, will be held at the
Athletics & Fitness Center on Thursday, Oct. 14, starting at 10
p.m. The event is free and is open to the general public. It
will feature highlights from last season as people are entering
the arena.

Lakers open season with SAC/Peach Belt Challenge at Tusculum
2010- 11 Clayton State Men's Basketball Schedule
MORROW,
Ga. – September 28, 2010 –
To say the 2010-11 Clayton State Laker men’s basketball schedule
will be challenging is an understatement. Clayton State head
coach Gordon Gibbons officially released the Lakers’ 2010-11
schedule on Tuesday, and it’s loaded with quality competition.
All total, seven of Clayton State’s opponents this upcoming
season advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament last
season. That includes four opponents from within the rugged
Peach Belt Conference – Augusta State, Georgia College,
Montevallo and USC Aiken. Clayton State opens the 2010-11 season
with the SAC/Peach Belt Challenge at Tusculum on Nov. 12-13.

Clayton State men’s basketball players honored in SEBL Summer
League
Downs selected first team All-League, Robinson selected
second team, Thorogood selected third team; Gibbons finalizes
recruiting class

Ga. – September 22, 2010 –
Members of the Clayton State Laker men’s basketball team
competed over the summer in the SEBL Summer Basketball Pro-Am
League, and a few came away with some postseason honors. Three
returning Lakers garnered All-League selections in the South
Division of the 2010 SEBL Metro A-League. Senior point guard
Timmy Downs was selected first team All-League, while senior
forward Brandon Robinson was a second team selection and senior
center Michael Thorogood was selected third team All-League. In
addition, Thorogood was also honored on the SEBL All-Defensive
Team.

Former Clayton State player Kevin Young hired as head coach of
D-League’s Utah Flash
Ex-guard was standout for the Lakers during 2002-03 and
2003-04 seasons

Utah – September 8, 2010 –
The Utah Flash of the NBA’s D-League officially introduced
former Clayton State guard Kevin Young as its new head coach on
Tuesday. Young, who was the Lakers’ point guard during the
2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons under head coach Gordon Gibbons, has
been with the Flash since its inception in 2007. A native of
Marietta, Ga., Young has served in numerous capacities for the
Flash, ranging from director of basketball operations, scout and
assistant coach. This past season, he was an assistant for the
Flash, which is the D-League affiliate of both the Atlanta Hawks
and the Utah Jazz.
