MORROW, Ga. – November 6, 2009 – Fans got a sneak peak of the 2009-10 version of the Clayton State men’s basketball team on Friday night, and left the Athletics and Fitness Center impressed and entertained at the same time. Playing their first exhibition game of the season against the Golden Star from the island of Martinique, the Lakers turned on the afterburners with an astonishing 125-59 rout at the Athletics and Fitness Center. This is the first of two exhibition games for Clayton State, the next coming on Nov. 18 against BASELINE USA. Sophomore Torrin Greene paced a balanced Laker attack with 18 points. See full story


Clayton State picked second in Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball preseason poll
Lakers open regular season on Nov. 22 at home against Edward Waters
MORROW, Ga. – October 29, 2009 – The Peach Belt Conference released its 2009-10 Peach Belt Conference preseason poll for men’s basketball on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers were picked second overall in the poll voted on by the PBC head men’s coaches. Head coach Gordon Gibbons’ Lakers received one first-place vote and 123 total points to place second behind preseason favorite and defending PBC champion and NCAA Division II "Final Four" participant Augusta State. MORROW, Ga. – September 10, 2009 Clayton State Laker men’s basketball head coach Gordon Gibbons officially released his 2009-10 schedule on Thursday. And from the looks of it, the Lakers will feel right at "home" this season. Out of Clayton State’s first 18 games to start the season, 14 will be in the friendly confines of the Athletics and Fitness Center. Overall, the Lakers will play 20 home games, including preseason exhibitions against Martinique (Nov. 6) and Baseline USA (Nov. 14) to start the season. See full story


Clayton State’s Downs, Robinson selected to play in Southern Classic Roundball Invitational
Laker newcomers will play for SEBL-Baseline in premier summer league event
MORROW, Ga. – August 13, 2009 – They have yet to lace up their sneakers as Clayton State Lakers, but already Tim Downs and Brandon Robinson are beginning to turn heads and raise eyebrows. The two newcomers to the Clayton State fold this upcoming season have been getting a head start this summer with the rest of their Laker teammates, playing in the SEBL (Southern Exposure Basketball League) in the metro Atlanta area. And this coming weekend, both Downs and Robinson will compete in the seventh-annual Southern Classic Roundball Invitational in Marietta. See full story
