Fans got a sneak peak of the 2009-10 version of the Clayton
State men’s basketball team on Friday night, and left the
Athletics and Fitness Center impressed and entertained at the
same time.
Playing their first exhibition game of the season against the
Golden Star from the island of Martinique, the Lakers turned on
the afterburners with an astonishing 125-59 rout at the
Athletics and Fitness Center. This is the first of two
exhibition games for Clayton State, the next coming on Nov. 18
against BASELINE USA.
Clayton State unveiled a new more up-tempo style of play from
recent seasons. The Lakers still played their vaunted full-court
pressure defense, forcing a whopping 48 Martinique turnovers and
scoring 67 points off turnovers in the process. However, Clayton
State pushed the ball more effectively offensively, shooting 54
percent from the field for the game and 41 percent from 3-point
range.
Clayton State scored the game’s first 17 points, eventually
building its first-half lead to 42 points. The Lakers’ largest
lead in the second half was 66 points, including the final
outcome.

the Lakers spread the wealth offensively. Sophomore forward
Torrin Greene paced Clayton State with 18 points on 8-for-10
