Clayton State men crack NABC Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll
8-0 Lakers tied with Valdosta State for 25th in the nation in Division II

MORROW, Ga. – Dec. 22, 2008 – It was only a matter of time for the Clayton State Laker men’s basketball team.

After an absence of a little more than a year, the Lakers are back in the Division II National Top 25 poll. The NABC Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll was released on Tuesday, and Clayton State made its heralded return to the rankings. The 8-0 Lakers are tied with fellow state program Valdosta State for 25th in the nation in the new poll.

It is the first time that Clayton State has been ranked in the NABC Division II Top 25 since being ranked 25th in the final regular season poll of the 2006-07 season.

Clayton State is one of three programs from the Peach Belt Conference ranked in the latest Top 25 poll. USC Aiken is ranked second in the nation, a position the Pacers have held since the start of the season. In addition, Augusta State moved up from 10th to seventh in the new poll.

Clayton State is off for the holiday break. The Lakers return to action in fine fashion on Jan. 3, playing host to arch-rival Augusta State in a Top 25 showdown.
