Clayton State’s Kelly selected Peach Belt Conference
All-Academic for men’s basketball
Senior started two seasons at power forward for the Lakers

MORROW, Ga. – April 9, 2009 – The Peach Belt Conference recognized its outstanding student-athletes for men’s basketball with the release of the PBC All-Academic team on Thursday. Selected first team PBC All-Academic for the 2008-09 season was Clayton State’s Brian Kelly.

A 6-foot-8, 215-pound senior forward from Decatur, Ga., Kelly started all 29 games this season for the Lakers at power forward. He averaged nine points and seven rebounds a game, while shooting 57 percent from the field. He finished the season ranked fifth in the Peach Belt Conference in both field goal percentage and offensive rebounding and sixth in rebounding.

For his career, Kelly finished fifth all-time at Clayton State in rebounding with 481, tied for fifth all-time in offensive rebounds with 181 and ninth in blocked shots with 44.

Equally impressive as Kelly was on the court, the same is true in the classroom. A middle school education major, Kelly has a cumulative 3.46 grade-point average and has been twice selected Peach Belt Conference Presidential scholar. In addition, he’s been on the dean’s list at Clayton State five times.
