17-0 Lakers ready for Top 25 Peach Belt Conference showdown at 25th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic

MORROW, Ga. --- JANUARY 23, 2007 --- The NABC Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll for men’s basketball was released on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers continue to stand near the top of the rankings.

For the sixth straight week, Clayton State is ranked second in the nation in Division II, according to the NABC Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll heading into Wednesday’s Top 25 Peach Belt Conference road showdown at rival Armstrong Atlantic. The undefeated Lakers (170, 60 PBC) received 192 points, eight points behind top-ranked and defending Division II national champion Winona State.

In fact, the first eight positions remained the same. Following both Winona State and Clayton State included Central Missouri, Bentley, Minnesota State, Findlay, Emporia State and Grand Valley State. However, Southern Indiana moved back into the Top 10 at ninth, and Metro State is now ranked 10th after Quincy dropped from ninth to 18th in this week’s poll.

Clayton State is one of two teams ranked in the Top 25 from the Peach Belt Conference. Armstrong Atlantic fell one spot from 21st to 25th after dropping an 83-74 decision against Augusta State last Wednesday.

Clayton State’s showdown at Armstrong Atlantic is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the AASU Sports Complex. It will be a rematch of the earlier overtime classic on Jan. 10 at Clayton State in which the Lakers prevailed in a 69-64 overtime thriller.
