Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll for fourth straight week

Undefeated Clayton State prepares for Peach Belt showdown against 20th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic on Wednesday

 

MORROW, Ga. --- JANUARY 9, 2007 --- The NABC Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll for men’s basketball was released on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers continued its stay near the top of the rankings

For the fourth straight week, Clayton State is ranked second in the nation in Division II, according to the NABC Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll heading into Wednesday’s Peach Belt Conference home showdown against 20th-ranked Armstrong Atlantic. The undefeated Lakers received 192 points, eight points behind top-ranked and defending Division II national champion Winona State.

Central Missouri remained third, while Bentley maintained its ranking at fourth and Southern Indiana stayed at fifth. Rounding out the Top 10 included Minnesota State, Findlay, Emporia State, Grand Valley State and Quincy.

Clayton State is currently 13-0 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt Conference after Saturday’s 78-50 rout over Francis Marion. This is the most consecutive victories for the Lakers at both the start of a season and the longest winning streak in program history.

Next up for the Clayton State is a much-anticipated showdown in the Peach Belt against Armstrong Atlantic (11-2, 2-0). The Lakers and Pirates, both tied for first place in the Peach Belt South Division, tip it off on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
