Laker men hold steady at second in new NABC
Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll
11-0 Clayton State stay No. 2 in nation for third straight poll
MORROW,
Ga. — JANUARY 2, 2007 —
The NABC Division II Top 25 Coach’s poll for men’s
basketball
was released on Tuesday, and the Clayton State Lakers held steady at
second in the nation for a third straight week.
The Lakers received 192 points overall, putting them eight points behind
top-ranked and defending NCAA Division II National Champion Winona
State. The top six in the nation remained the same from the previous
poll as Central Missouri is ranked third, followed by Bentley, Southern
Indiana and Minnesota State. Rounding out the Top 10 was Findlay,
Emporia State, Virginia Union and Grand Valley State.
Clayton State is one of two teams ranked this week from the Peach Belt
Conference, as Georgia College debut this week at 21st in the nation.
Clayton State finished off its non-conference schedule with three
victories over the weekend in the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic. The
Lakers routed Texas-Permian Basin 80-56, Edward Waters 84-35 and
Arkansas-Monticello 88-54. The 11-0 start to the 2006-07 season is the
best start to a season in program history, and the 11-game winning
streak is the longest in program history.
Clayton State opens Peach Belt Conference schedule on Wednesday at 7:30
p.m. at conference newcomer Georgia Southwestern. |
