Clayton State tied for 25th in final NABC Division II
Men’s Coach’s Poll

Lakers play Catawba in NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional in Augusta

MORROW, Ga. – MARCH 7, 2007 The final NABC Division II Coach’s Poll for men’s basketball was released late Tuesday night, and the Clayton State Lakers are tied for 25th in the final Top 25 poll.

Clayton State, which dropped the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship 75-61 against Lander on Sunday, is deadlocked with Barry for the final spot in the poll. Both teams received nine points for the ranking. However, for Clayton State, it meant that the Lakers were ranked each week this season, starting from the preseason Top 25 poll that was released on Nov. 7 until now. That has never happened in the history of men’s basketball at Clayton State.

In addition, the Lakers are one of two teams from the Peach Belt ranked in the final poll. Augusta State, whom Clayton State defeated twice in three games this season, is ranked 18th.

Defending NCAA Division II national champion Winona State is at the same place where it started in the preseason poll – the top-ranked team in Division II.

Next up for Clayton State is another milestone – it’s first ever NCAA Division II National Tournament bid. The Lakers will be the third seed this weekend at the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional at Augusta State, and will play sixth-seeded Catawba on Saturday at 12 p.m.
