Division II Top 25 Coach’s Poll
Undefeated Lakers ranked 6th in first poll released in 2006-07 season

MORROW, Ga. --- NOVEMBER 29, 2006 --- The strong start to the 2006-07 men’s basketball season is already paying dividends for the Clayton State Lakers

The NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) released its first Division II Top 25 poll of the 2006-07 season, and Clayton State advanced two spots to sixth in the nation. The Lakers, who were ranked eighth in the preseason Top 25 poll, received 147 points for the new ranking.

This marks the highest in-season national ranking ever for Clayton State in men’s basketball. The Lakers stand directly behind fifth-ranked Rollins and fourth-ranked Grand Valley State. Defending Division II National Champion Winona State is the top-ranked team in Division II, followed by Southern Indiana and Tarleton State. Rounding out the Top 10 is Central Missouri, Bentley, Seattle Pacific and Fort Hays State.

Head coach Gordon Gibbons’ Laker squad is currently 2-0 overall on the season following Monday’s thrilling 80-74 victory at North Alabama. Clayton State leads the Peach Belt Conference in scoring, averaging 82 points a contest.

Clayton State plays this weekend at the Catawba Classic in Salisbury, N.C. The Lakers play Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by host Catawba on Saturday at 4 p.m.
