Laker men cruise to 91-40 exhibition victory over Martinique Golden Star
Sloan, Beugnot score 16 points each to pace Clayton State

 

MORROW, Ga. — NOVEMBER 1, 2006 — Led by four players in double-figures, the Clayton State Laker men’s basketball team cruised to a 91-40 exhibition win over visiting Martinique Golden Star. Coach Gordon Gibbon’s Lakers jumped out to a 24-2 lead 10 minutes into the first half and were never seriously challenged.

Clayton State’s John Beugnot and Michael Sloan led all scorers with 16 points apiece as the Lakers shot 51 percent from the field. The Lakers built a comfortable 40-13 halftime lead with Sloan leading the way with 11 first half points while teammate Brandon Kelley scored eight points.

Kelley, along with Aristide Sawadogo finished with 10 points on the night, while Brian Kelly came off the bench to score eight points. Sawadogo finished with a game-high 10 rebounds. Celestine Wesley’s eight points led Martinique.

Clayton State’s next scheduled exhibition game is Nov. 14 against Baseline USA.
