One of the newest members of the
Clayton State athletic
family, Lee Wright is in his second full year as the Laker
Sports Information Director. Wright came to Clayton
State after serving three-plus years in a similar
capacity at NCAA Division III Methodist University in
Fayetteville, N.C.
The move to Clayton State is Wright's fifth position in
his nine years in the sports information
field. Prior to serving at Methodist, he spent two years
as the Sports Information Director and Compliance
Director at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., and one
year each as an Assistant Sports Information Director at
both Life University in Marietta, Ga., and the
University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Ga.
In addition,
Wright also has a strong journalistic background,
working as a sports writer for six years. He
was at the Marietta Daily Journal for three years, and
also worked at the Chattanooga Times. In addition, he
has also served as the official statistician for both
the Mobile BayBears of the Southern League and the
Fayetteville Guard of the National Indoor Football
League.
In his short time at Clayton State, Wright has worked
hard to upgrade the "Laker Zone," the official athletic
website of the Clayton State Athletics. He's also helped
implement webcasting to all Clayton State home
basketball games. In addition, Wright has also become active in the
ranks of Division II, serving this season as the
as the
Daktronics Men's Basketball Division II South Atlantic
All-Region Coordinator.
Wright's postseason experience is extensive. This
past spring, he was the media coordinator for the NCAA
Division II South Atlantic Women's Basketball Regional,
hosted by Clayton State. Wright has also served as media coordinator for the
2005 NCAA Division III Women's Golf National
Championships, plus the 2003 Dixie Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, the
2003 DIAC Lacrosse Tournament and the 2004 USA South
Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament.
Wright came on board at Methodist as the Sports Information
Director in August, 2002. During his tenure, he worked
hard at upgrading the athletic website, the media guides
for specific sports teams, and helped implement internet webcasting for certain Methodist athletic events.
During his two years at Spring Hill, Wright produced
some top quality media guides for Badger Athletics. In
fact, his 2001-02 men's basketball media guide placed
fifth nationally in the NAIA-SIDA competition.
A former football
player at Tennessee Wesleyan College, Wright is a
1995 graduate from the University of
Tennessee-Chattanooga with a bachelor’s degree in
communications with a minor in economics. He is an
active member of CoSIDA (College Sports Information
Directors of America). Lee and his wife, Jennifer,
welcomed the birth of their first child - Jonathan -
born on Nov. 3, 2006. The Wrights reside in McDonough,
