Athletic
Director
Monique
Holland joins the Clayton College & State University athletic
department in 2003 as assistant
athletic director and the department’s first senior woman
administrator.
She served the last two years
as assistant director of compliance at Georgia Institute of
Technology in Atlanta, GA. Prior to working in the compliance
office, Holland served as an assistant coach in Georgia
Tech’s women’s basketball program from 1996-2001.
Said
Mason Barfield, Clayton State athletic director, “We are extremely excited to have someone as
talented as Monique (Holland) join our staff. She will bring a
wealth of experience in compliance and be an asset to our
department with her background as both a collegiate coach and
a student-athlete.”
In
addition to serving as the school’s senior woman
administrator and compliance director, Holland will also be
the coordinator of the newly formed Clayton State cheerleading
program, as well as, assist the department in promotional and
game management duties.
The
cheerleading program, which will offer scholarships to men and
women, will be unique in that the cheerleaders will serve as
“ambassadors” of the athletic program. Not only will the
cheerleaders attend all Laker home events, the cheerleaders
will also represent the athletic department at special campus
functions, such as visitation days and orientations.
As
assistant director of compliance at Georgia Tech, Holland’s
primary responsibility was to educate the department
administrators, coaches, student-athletes and boosters on NCAA
compliance issues.
Some
of her duties included: processing and monitoring of the
national letter of intent and NCAA Clearinghouse matters,
transfer and release of student athletes, donation requests
and promotional activities, financial aid, initial eligibility
and the declaring and monitoring of practice and playing
seasons.
Prior
to serving as an assistant women’s basketball coach at
Georgia Tech, Holland, who lives in nearby Riverdale, GA,
served as the assistant venue logistics manager for the
Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games in 1996. She
coordinated management, planning and operations for the
basketball and gymnastic venues.
Holland,
who is originally from St. Joseph, MO, graduated magna cum
laude in 1996 from Alabama State University with a B.S. in
therapeutic recreation. She holds a master’s degree from
Georgia State University in sports administration.
She
was a four-year letterwinner and team-captain in basketball at
Alabama State University and an Academic All-American. Holland
also was named to the national Dean’s List, received the
Arthur Barnett Perseverance Award as well as the Arthur Ashe
Jr., Scholar Athlete Award.
